Pediatrics Answers-1

(D) Respiratory syncetial virus is the major
cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants
less than a year old. Adenoviruses (choice A)
can cause pneumonia with cough and fever,
particularly among children >3 year old.
Influenza virus (choice B) is not the most
common cause of bronchiolitis in infants and is
not associated with wheezing. Parainfluenza
serotype 3 (choice C) in older individuals has
mostly been associated with tracheobronchitis.
Infections with rotaviruses (choice E) are
especially common in children 1–24 months of
age. However, these viruses cause diarrhea, not
bronchiolitis.
